Hiding Places, 2025
Oil on canvas
48in x 60in
Part of a set of three paintings depicting myself as a child, roaming among oversized wildflowers. In this painting, I'm pictured hiding underneath pink phlox, geraniums, and rose verbena. Each of these wildflowers are native to Northern Illinois, where I grew up. The foundational inspiration for this work comes from my efforts to connect with my childhood self and the lived experiences she encountered outside, observing the native flora and fauna around her while growing up in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
